Historical Mystery Feature: A Kind and Savage Place by Richard Helms #promo #releaseday #giveaway #historical #mystery #rabtbooktours @RABTBookTours @rickhelmsauthor

Historical Mystery

Date Published: 03-01-2022

Publisher: New Arc Books / Level Best Books

It's 1954. The place is Prosperity, North Carolina, a small farming community in Bliss County. Three teenagers, the 1953 championship-winning offensive backfield for Prosperity High, are unwilling participants in a horrific event that results in a young man’s death.

One of the friends harbors a tragic secret that could have prevented the crime. Divulging it would ruin his life, so he stays quiet, fully aware he will carry a stain of guilt for the rest of his life.

The three buddies go their separate ways for almost a decade, before another tragedy brings them back to Prosperity in 1968. Now in their thirties, it is a time of civil and racial unrest in America.

They discover the man who committed murder back in ’54 is now the mayor, and rules the town with an autocratic iron fist. He’s backed by his own private force of sheriff's deputies and forcibly intimidates and silences any malcontents.

Worse, now he's set his sights on Congress.

A Kind and Savage Place spans half a century from 1942 to 1989 and examines the dramatic racial and societal turmoil of that period through the microcosmic lens of a flyspeck North Carolina agricultural community.

A word from the Author

I was a lass about age six when I started writing the songs of my soul with a semi-sharpened pencil without an eraser. I found torn papers discarded from perfect two-lined books to pen my thoughts. Not grasping how my ideas aligned with my words, I wrote verses and songs sitting on a narrow wooden bridge over the stream winding the paddy fields in my ancestral home.

Thirty thousand miles driving from the USA to South America with a 6-year-old kid in a camper van. Will they make it?

After a decade in the corporate rat race, Mary was ready for a change. Too much stress and not enough time with her family left her feeling that her priorities were all wrong.

So she and her husband hatched a crazy plan to change their lives...

They quit their jobs.

They pulled their six-year-old daughter out of school.

And they moved into an old camper van to attempt a drive to the southernmost tip of the world!

What followed were three-and-a-half years of heartwarming personal encounters, breathtaking wilderness campsites, and occasionally terrifying situations...

Surrounded by an angry mob in Mexico, threatened by exploding batteries in Colombia, caught up in a political revolution in Bolivia - they grew closer as a family as they navigated through adversity. But what stuck with them the most was the endless generosity of the local people, from whom they learned invaluable lessons about happiness and priorities.

Will they survive whale sharks, police searches, and volunteering in local schools? What happens when COVID hits?

Review
Exploration in many ways. That was this book. The author got so much more from her journey and it really shows in her writing. She writes beautifully about her experiences and relationships in a captivating way.
I like how this had the power to transport you to different places and move you. It captured my attention the whole time.
Read this book. You won't regret the time you spend doing so, it's wonderful.

About the Author

Mary is passionate about travel and the outdoors. Originally from England, she moved to California for its rock climbing and sunshine, worked a season on the Yosemite Search and Rescue team, but then ended up climbing the corporate ladder at Google for a decade to fund her travel obsession.

She has bicycled across Central America, motorcycled across Mexico, driven the length of Australia, and backpacked around Europe, S.E. Asia, and Africa – all as a prelude to the epic drive through the Americas that is the subject of this book.

She’s written for travel, climbing, and retirement magazines, and this is her first foray into a full-length book.

Fantasy Erotica Feature: Tentacle Temptation by Eva DeMoan @EvaDeMoan #promo #releaseday #fantasy #erotica #rabtbooktours @RABTBookTours

Naughty Films Inc #1

Fantasy Erotica

Date Published: February 25, 2022

Publisher: Razor’s Edge

WARNING: Tentacle Temptation is part of the monster erotica series Naughty Films Inc. There is little to no plot, not much in the way of character development, but there is lots of super hot sex of the taboo variety with seven kraken males and one human female. If you want a happily-ever-after, with romance and a strong storyline, this is NOT what you’re looking for. Please leave all concepts of reality here before proceeding…

I worked my way up the ladder in the Adult Entertainment industry, taking any jobs I could. Now my producer has come to me with an offer I can’t refuse -- mostly because he didn’t give me a choice -- a series of “monster” films with actors in elaborate costumes. But I’d never say no to the amount cash involved…

Except he lied. Those aren’t costumes!

I’m not only about to be claimed by the Alpha Kraken, but by his pod, too!

Excerpt

I didn’t have a fucking clue what I was supposed to be doing, so I turned to face the counter and looked at the glass tubes set up. I lifted one and “accidentally” dropped it.

Oops! I’m so clumsy today,” I said, bending down to pick it up. The camera man zoomed in on my boobs, which nearly spilled from my shirt.

Doctor, your patient is ready,” a voice called out from off-set.

I turned to face the fake door, and my breath stalled when the most beautiful man I’d ever seen entered – propelled by tentacles! Oh, shit! When Carl said they’d spared no expense, he wasn’t kidding. This guy looked like he’d just come straight from the sea.

He approached, not even slowing, until he’d pinned me against the counter. “I’m finished being your experiment.”

I swallowed hard, my heart racing as he pressed his hard body against me. “What are you going to do about it?”

He grinned, exposing a mouthful of sharp, needle-like teeth. I nearly shuddered, but repressed my reaction. Barely.

You’ve poked and prodded me for months. I think it’s my turn.”

A tentacle slithered up my thigh. Oh, crap!

About the Author

Eva loves erotica, both writing and reading -- the filthier and the kinkier, the better. While Eva has always loved monster books and movies, when she saw the World of Warcraft movie she fell head over heels for Durotan, the Orc Chieftan. That's when Eva decided to start writing some monster stories of her own.

YA Fantasy Feature: Song of the Adoël by Kevin King @kevinkingauthor #promo #releaseday #giveaway #yafantasy #youngadult #rabtbooktours @RABTBookTours

YA Fantasy

Date Published: 2/22/2022

Publisher: Brimstone Fiction

The Adoël keep their past a secret, speaking only of some great sin for which they pay penance by living as servants to the royal family. The curse that haunts them, that turns their skin pale and their hair white, is a shame too deep to even speak of.

Raendel resents being told he must pay for the guilt of others. Why should he have to suffer? Their actions had nothing to do with him. Or so he thinks.

When creatures out of the darkest legends attack the king in his own castle, and the prince runs off on a suicidal quest for vengeance, the 'sins of the past' suddenly become a very present reality. And very personal.

Excerpt

Urgent shouts of “Protect the king!” echoed in Raendel’s head while flashbacks of the vision from Master Othniel’s chamber pricked his conscience. He covered his ears with his hands, but he couldn’t block out Othniel’s voice that spoke inside his own mind. We failed our master. We must never fail him again.

Raendel argued back against his conscience. What can I do? I don’t know how to fight! The king has Master Lenore and Master Deborah to protect him. I would only get in the way.

The shadow creature knocked aside nobles and soldiers alike, advancing to within a few yards of the high table. Lenore and Deborah pulled the king through a door that opened into a passage ending at the king's chambers. He considered the advancing enemy and then the door where the king had gone. He didn’t know what he could do, but his conscience wouldn't let him just lie there and do nothing. With one last glance at the attackers, he leaped up and ran after the king.

About the Author

Kevin King grew up in south Louisiana, raised on a steady diet of gumbo and fiction novels. His hobbies include Renaissance Fairs, bookstores, fencing, and daydreaming. He lives outside of Seattle with his wife, his dog Frodo, and their combined book collection.

Publisher: Black Rose

photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

Welcome to Berlin. Population: desperate. In the throes of the climate crisis the green tech pioneers are king, and if you aren't willing to be their serf then you're surplus to requirements.

Carbon credit for sleeping on the job. That's the offer a dreamtech puts to Mara Kinzig, and she jumps on it. After all, the city ain't getting any cheaper.

Then somebody changes the deal while she's dreaming in the tank.

Now Mara has a body on her hands, an extra voice in her head, and the law on her tail. Only the Vanguard, a Foreign Legion of outcasts seeking an alternative path in the dust between the city states, might be able to help her figure out what went wrong. First, though, she'll have to escape the seething streets of Berlin alive.

Review
Grant Price has a great author voice. His personality comes through in his writing and it really made everything from the setting, to the characters and their interactions feel very real.

Wonderful characterization with main characters who are very compelling.

Abbas has really created an imaginative Cyberpunk book that is action packed, wonderfully written and full of surprises.

About the Author

Mystery Feature: Mother Blues by Owen Thomas #blogtour #mystery #rabtbooktours @MKWebsiteandSEO @RABTBookTours @otfiction

Mystery / Literary Fiction

Date Published:September 30, 2021

Publisher: OTF Literary

What if your childhood harbored a dire warning about your future? What if your life and the lives of dozens of others, including your future child, depended on you deciphering that warning before it is too late?

Mother Blues is about the maternal relationships we never knew existed, the evil we never expect, and the redemption we never think possible. Subversively feminist and environmental, this is a novel about mothers: those we have loved and lost, those we have never known, and those who have always been there for us whether we have realized it or not. And while this is not a novel about blues music, the blues is everywhere in this story, both grounding it in history and pushing it forward in a slow, rhythmic ache.

If there is one maternal presence that binds together the characters of this novel, living and dead, it is the blues itself. Bessie Smith, Ma Rainey, Etta James, Big Mama Thornton, Mahalia Jackson, and all the timeless mothers to that quintessentially American genre are here, a soulful Greek chorus singing from the shadows, warning and imploring, offering hope, and bearing witness to lives adrift and in danger of capsizing.
