Fantasy Feature: A Vengeful Realm by Tim Facciola #epicfantasy #fantasy #audiobook #review #rabtbooktours @timfacciola

The Scales of Balance, Book 1

Epic Fantasy

Date Published: October 24, 2023

Publisher: First Torch Books

Narrator: Landon Soelberg

Run Time: 16  hours, 6 minutes

"Arena-set action sequences shine ... but even more impressive is the constant political maneuvering, as characters mingle with enemies while plotting against them. There is, of course, plenty of mystery, and Facciola amps up excitement with signs of magic, appearances from gods, and betrayals."

— Kirkus Reviews

"A captivating fantasy with strong characters and even stronger combat scenes ... It is difficult to overstate the storytelling prowess of author Tim Facciola."

— Independent Book Review

Peace bought by blood seldom lasts, for vengeance knows no end. The same is true for mortals and gods alike. Decades, centuries, and even eras may pass, but the cycle remains. As war and revolution rise again, Zephyrus finds himself at the center of it all. Chosen by the gods, hailed as a prophet of liberation, and forged as a weapon to break the kingdom and restore balance to the realm, hope rests squarely on his shoulders.

If only he could remember....

Enslaved as a gladiator and thrust into a prince’s game of espionage, Zephyrus has only two clues to help unlock his shattered past: a prophecy foretelling destruction, and a letter to the enemy king, promising peace. Now Zephyrus must survive the dangers of the gladiatorial arena, the cunning fury of the prince’s enemies, and the gods’ torment if he is to find the truth of his identity and fulfill his fate. But to have any hope of breaking the cycle, first he must secure his freedom—and not just from his slavers.

Within this vengeful realm, a queen protecting her kingdom, a prince defending his father, and a gladiator slave haunted by a prophecy each contend for their own brand of freedom. But the gods have an agenda of their own, and they'll use any vessel—patrician, plebeian, or slave—to see it done.

The scales must be balanced. By peace. Or by blood.

Review
Tim Facciola has written a descriptive novel that does a great job of pulling the reader into the world he has created... this is brought up a notch by the wonderful and vivid performance of the narrator.

The flow was well executed and everything as far as pacing went felt smooth. The excitement continued to build as I listened/

A wonderful Fantasy novel!

Coming of Age Feature: Ivy Hill by Arthur Ruben and Eleanor Cooney #bookreview #comingofage #fiction #rabtbooktours @RABTBookTours

A Novel inspired by True Events

Coming of Age / Fiction

Date Published: November 28, 2023

Publisher: Manhattan Book Group

What happens when a loving family man dies suddenly and a stranger takes his place?

IVY HILL is a thoroughly American coming-of-age story set in the mid-20th century. Earthy, realistic, and mordantly funny, it is rich with details of that iconic era. It is also a timeless, universal tale of redemption, morality and conquering adversity, with nearly-mythic elements anyone from any century and virtually any culture would recognize: there's a wicked giant, a good grandmother and a bad one, a "ghost" or two, and even, in a manner of speaking, a dark potion.

And at the center of the story, an innocent child.

Love, death, danger and fate intertwine in this novel, which was inspired by author Arthur Ruben's actual life. It takes place in Brooklyn from 1952-1957, then Newark from 1958-1970. Ruben's protagonist, five-year-old "Eddie," is devastated following the death of his beloved 34-year-old father. He waits in vain and with a slowly breaking heart for Daddy to return. His mother's disastrous remarriage, plus the family's wrenching move from Brooklyn, NY, to the Ivy Hill section of Newark, NJ, turns Eddie's life inside out. Over the next thirteen years, he is transformed from helpless brokenhearted child into an entirely different creature. The post-war society he was born into is also transformed: the repercussions of that potent and turbulent time, still in living memory-Viet Nam, Woodstock, the Mansons, and especially now, civil rights-are with us to this day, and will resonate with millions of readers.

Review
This book was quite a bit more than what I was expecting.
I saw it as a story of relationships with all people and with the natural world.
This is a beautiful story of how with the compassion and influence of special people in one's life, these trials can lead to forgiveness, hope, resilience, and a feeling of self-worth.
It was quite heartbreaking at times. It's not an easy shiny read. It's deep and will make you FEEL.

IVY HILL, co-authored by Arthur Ruben with Eleanor Cooney, is inspired by true events.
