Blog Tour: Surrender of Trust by @mariel_grey read my #review and enter the #giveaway

Historical Romance / Regency
Date Published: April 15, 2013

Lucy Goodwin knows more about horse breeding than a proper young lady should. Her brother’s thoroughbred business has given her purpose and independence, but when an accident leaves her solely in charge, despair and destruction threaten her every move. Trapped in an impossible position, Lucy must do the right thing and watch their dreams crumble, or save their livelihood at a cost too great to bear.

Lord Philip Lyton, Marquess of Chalifour is a member of the prestigious Jockey Club, dedicated to eliminating cheating in horse racing. Trouble raises its ugly head when his business partner falls foul of an accident and he’s suddenly forced to deal with the man’s sister, who seems alarmingly out of her depth.

Chalifour respects Lucy’s steely resolve, but knows that single-mindedness can be the most dangerous trait of all. She might be beautiful and beguiling, but Lucy Goodwin is keeping secrets and Chalifour is determined to find out what they are.

Review

I truly enjoyed that Mariel Grey added in horse racing to a Historical Romance novel. I think that reading about that aspect and how it was back then was a different layer of this novel.

The typical Historical Romance elements were well done. The characterization and setting both felt like the time period I was reading about.

I liked how Lucy wasn't a complete typical naive Historical Romance lead.

About the Author

From the moment she could put pen to paper, Mariel Grey knew she wanted to be a writer. Like all good adventures however, it didn’t happen overnight; it was after several decades of working in litigation that the desire to create dramatic worlds and characters became too great to ignore. Her first foray into historical romance, Surrender of Trust, explored the grime and glamour of regency horse racing, following the determined but impoverished Lucy Goodwin and upright Lord Chalifour. Her second novel, A Gentleman’s Surrender,  released in January 2016,  introduced the innocent Lady Monique and tortured Mr. Stanton, both struggling to find love in a world filled with deceit.

Though entirely at home in the ballrooms and street alleys of London past, Mariel Grey is currently working on a contemporary story set in Florida, a landscape dear to the author’s heart. When she isn’t conjuring words on her computer screen, Grey can be found on the water fishing, snorkeling, and enjoying the incredible natural beauty of her home.

Mariel has a wonderful husband (the hero of her own romantic story) as well as a mischievous cat (who seems happy to play the role of villain). In addition to being a dutiful wife and animal wrangler, Mariel is a member of the Romance Writers of America and the Ancient City Romance Authors chapter.

Review

This novel and series has a lot of heart and a lot of action. Kate is an interesting lead, she is misunderstood and considered weak yet is such a strong character and I loved that. It was nice getting to know her as a person and not just for things that happen to her.

I found the plot to be riveting with plenty of twists and turns, drama, and much more along the way.

The writing style was fluid and fast paced, which I really enjoyed!

Karen Tjebben lives in central North Carolina with her encouraging and supportive husband, twin daughters, and two hamsters. When her girls left for kindergarten, Karen discovered that she needed to fill her days with something, and that was the beginning of her new career in writing. She loves to create worlds filled with unique creatures that she hopes will delight and raise goose bumps on her readers. HJ Lawson has a real talent for bringing to life characters that a reader just connects with and roots for from the very beginning.  This is the beginning of a new series and Lawson does an amazing job of setting up the world, characters, and plot to allow for a continuation that will be sure to please.

The pacing and plot of the novel was very well done. There was plenty of action and it really kept my attention throughout!

Review

This novel really blew me away with the way the Author was able to bring to life the main characters and while they were so different in their motives and actions, we truly understood where each were coming from. That is a huge testament to Noreen Wainwright's writing ability.

This novel is full of suspense and each chapter I was wondering how it would all unfold and end. Wainwright definitely managed to keep me on the edge and invested until the very end.

Noreen is the author of three crime mystery novels in the Edith Horton series and the fourth is now ready for submission. She is a freelance journalist who has had many articles and features published. She lives on a dairy farm with her husband and dog, Vicky.

 Review

This was a final installment and I think that it really managed to build on that of the others in the series. I think that B. Truly has done a great job creating a story that is descriptive enough to make the readers feel like they are a part of the world. The plot flows nice and smooth and the characters are all people who I enjoyed reading about and connecting to.

This was a very emotional conclusion that comes full circle.

B Truly has wanted to be an author since she was fifteen years old and is grateful to have accomplished this dream. She has very vivid dreams and a wild imagination. She likes to read, watch tons of TV shows, and movies. She is addicted to romance and gets a thrill out of action and suspense. She writes New Adult, Fantasy, Sci-fi, and Paranormal-Romance.

Review

The word that comes to mind after finishing this novel is unique. I think that Hargus Montgomery has brought his own spin to all things Sci-Fi and Fantasy. It was unlike other YA Sci-Fi/Fantasy novels I have read in a good way. I love it when a reader can set his/her world apart from others.

The characters are vivid and real. They leap off the pages with their personalities and it makes it easy for the reader to care about them and what happens to them.

I enjoyed the way that Hargus Montgomery paced his novel. I felt like there was plenty of quick moments along with some points where the novel slowed a bit to allow us to catch our breath.

Sci-Fi / Romance
Date Published: May 31, 2016

When Maya Smock writes her first novel, everything seems to go her way. Her book practically writes itself. She marries her gorgeous agent. Her name is on all of the best seller lists. Billionaire author Jay McCallister takes an interest in her meteoric rise to fame and invites her into his world of alien-believing celebrities. Her life changes forever when he tells her that they were both created inside of a laboratory. These authors are embedding an alien genetic code within the pages of their novels that originated from Nazi Germany because…
The time has come. They are here.

Review

I loved that Maya had a rags to riches story. Unfortunately everything didn't end up happily ever after and because of the way she was raised, she took her (agent/husband) at face value and didn't see him for what he was and what he could do to her. Blind Love if you will.

Jay on the other hand opens her eyes to many things. Aliens and above all else, Truth. The journey and what comes from that is really the basis of the novel. It kept me guessing and I enjoyed most of the aspects of it.

The characters were fun to read about. Maya was a bit to naive to me in the beginning, but I ultimately understood her motivations. Jay was probably my favorite character, he just seemed so real and confident in his beliefs.

Review

I love emotional Romance novels that are redeeming. Kade wasn't the same man and I loved the fact that we could see him blossom and come out of the shell of a man he had become during the course of this novel. Growth of characters is my favorite thing to see over the course of a novel and Kade did that ten fold.

On top of that you have a Mystery/Suspense element that was very well written. It was imaginative and surprising and kept me guessing. There wasn't anything confusing by it, but there was a bit of misdirection which I enjoyed.

I liked the slow way the romance unfolded. With the pasts of the characters, it didn't need to be too quick and I enjoyed the authors restraint in that aspect.
