The Hidden Cries Behind Her Smile is a book filled with journal entries from one woman’s journey of discovering that she was living in an emotionally, mentally and verbally abusive marriage. In this book you will find some of her deepest and rawest emotions as she began to unpack all of the pain that this abuse had left on her mind and her heart. This type of abuse is one that is not talked about a lot because you cannot see the marks that it leaves on one’s body. In the pages of this book the writer paints a picture of the wounds and the scars that emotional, mental and verbal abuse does to a person’s heart and mind. You can almost hear her cries as you read through her journal entries, the cries that were hidden behind her smile for so long.

REVIEW
A heartbreaking account from a woman who shows her strength through her experiences and ability to overcome her circumstances.
Inspiring to those who have been in a similar situation and I enjoyed the way the author opened herself up and gave hope to those who may be in a similar situation.
There is beauty in her journey and inspiration in her life.

About the Author

Felicity is a woman who was married at the age of 19 and has been married for 30 years. She has devoted three decades of her life to her husband and kids, being a stay at home mom, homemaker and home schooling her children. Throughout her marriage she always knew that something wasn’t right in her relationship but she never quite knew what it was. It wasn’t until 25 years into her marriage that she began to discover that she was in an emotionally, mentally and verbally abusive relationship. During this time she began doing research on the topic of emotional, mental and verbal abuse. This new revelation began opening up many painful wounds inside of her as it painted a new picture of what her marriage had done to her emotionally, mentally and physically. To express her feelings she began writing about the pain that was surfacing inside of her. During this season in her life she knew that she wasn’t the only one who was going through the deep pain of this hidden abuse, which led to her desire to put her writings into a book to share with others. Her hope is that her words will help others feel seen who are living in an emotionally, mentally and verbally abusive relationship. Her prayer is that those who read her words will know that they are not alone as they navigate through healing from this painful and hidden abuse.

In her debut collection, Theresa Braun explores the inner workings of the human heart and what it is we most desire—forgiveness, acceptance, love, fame, or merely to escape who we really are. Whether we are battling ghosts, demons, mythical monsters, the past, or other dimensions, we are really facing the deepest parts of ourselves. These thirteen tales of horror and dark fantasy may appear to be a matter of good versus evil, but they are all a reflection of the hidden corners of the soul that are often shades of broken darkness. The characters in these stories must face their inner and outer terrors, or else suffer the consequences.

Review

These are short little stories that each bring something different. I enjoyed the variety.

Some of the premises were a little more out there than others, but I enjoyed each one. Being that they are short stories, I enjoyed how they moved along at a brisk pace, with revelations just around every corner. They were fast and furious stories that had plenty of action.

The production was well done. I enjoyed the narrator.

  About the Author

Theresa Braun was born in St. Paul, Minnesota and has carried some of that hardiness with her to South Florida where she currently resides. An English teacher and adjunct professor for over twenty years, she shares her enthusiasm for literary arts with her students. In her spare time she enjoys painting, traveling, and ghost hunting. When she's not writing or trying to save the world, she can be found looking for romance or shopping for antiques. In 2018 Unnerving released her horror novel Fountain Dead, a coming of age ghost story. Her short works have appeared in The Horror Zine, Sirens Call, Hardened Hearts, and Best Indie Speculative Fiction: November 2018, Double Barrel Horror (Volume 3) and Emporium of Superstition.

An Unfiltered Look at Public Finance, Media, Politics and Sports

Get unfiltered broadcasting and career advice with this biting and provocative firsthand account of working in media.

Paul Burton has 45 years under his belt, including 10 as a regional editor for New York City-based trade publication, Bond Buyer, and he’s survived—and thrived—to tell the tale. From his humble beginnings to his rise in the industry, Burton covers a lot of ground in his stories, from dealing with people in media and finance to workers in tech and personnel. He not only gives honest insights about financial news but also reveals the controversial internal politics of journalism and publishing that run rampant.

Burton’s wisdom on topics such as covering hot-button issues and fighting against negative stereotypes proves that a career in media is just like the news itself: eclectic, bold, and unexpected.

Take part in the drama and missteps that are a part of success in one of the best journalistic memoirs about business on the market.

About the Author

I am a retired journalist and author of two books, the most recent, “Fiascoes and Foibles: An Unfiltered Look at Public Finance, Media, Politics and Sports” (Elite Authors). It came out last Nov. 28. My earlier book was “Tales from the Newsrooms: An Offbeat Look” (Create Space), in 2011.

“Fiascoes,” a collection of anecdotal essays, reflects largely on my coverage of U.S. public finance over the last 10 years of my career – as a regional editor for a business publication in the shadow of Wall Street – against the backdrop of my 45 years in media. They capture drama, missteps and intrigue I encountered with color and biting, irreverent humor. Plenty of attitude. Topics range from transit/infrastructure to media and politics, and also include broadcasting and podcast dynamics, the alarming clout of tech bureaucracies, the abject failure of open-plan office layouts in the workplace and how my early days in sports journalism shaped and benefited my career.

Unique to my perspective is my blue-collar background. The media employs precious few people from working backgrounds these days. I didn’t go to Harvard, Duke or Stanford and prance right into the New York Times or Wall Street Journal. I was the son of a bartender who navigated a winding road, often working for small-to-medium media outlets who punched above their weight class, and frequently landed a rewarding knockout punch.

Entering their Senior year, the gang believes they left the rough seas behind on their summer cruise. Yet while they were away, seemingly random graffiti spread throughout Asbury. After a talented, young woman goes missing, Maddie, Cornelious, Carly and Pilot wonder if there could be a connection—since the graffiti suddenly stops. Things take a turn for the worse when her body is found a few weeks later, viciously murdered.

Most believe the murderer to be an outsider, until cryptic journal entries and close friends of the young woman point to someone in town. Things only get messier when the local bully (and Pitbulls gang leader) approaches the four sleuths, announcing one of his Pitbulls has gone missing as well. Could his missing Pitbull simply be the murderer on the run?

The deeper they investigate, the foggier everything seems. When Jeremiah Gibbz is arrested for murder, Cornelious is torn between trusting his father or accepting the mounting evidence.

In addition to Jeremiah’s legal troubles, he begins planning a presidential campaign and brings a hopeful future running mate to town…with his family. Among the new family, is beautiful and sly high school Senior, Chelsea Jaminucco—who (with Jeremiah’s blessing) is intent on making Cornelious her own.

Through everything, the gang celebrates their senior year with friends and each other. As scholarships and college loom closer than ever, the foursome find it difficult to focus on the case.

When typical high school problems and slippery interferences crowd the gang’s life, can they find the truth behind Asbury’s gruesome murder? Can they stick together, or will this case be the one that pulls them apart for good?

Review
Just like all the other books in the series, the plot was good, the cast of characters was large enough to keep things interesting without being overwhelming and their personality traits, good and bad, were well thought out and made me want to know more about each of them.

It's fun for a young reader while also providing real-life lessons and issues.

Kelly Brady Channick has penned yet another engrossing cozy mystery.

About the Author

For as long as she could remember, Kelly Brady Channick loved making up stories, and leaving her listeners/readers on the edge of their seats.

Perhaps that’s why she always managed to talk herself out of trouble...

After graduating from Ocean City High School in NJ, Kelly accepted a basketball scholarship to Holy Family University, in Philadelphia. As a lifelong athlete, Kelly understands the importance of teamwork and overcoming adversity, something she hopes translates into her books.

Before writing page-turners, she taught first, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade — like a dessert menu, she simply had to test them all out. But her favorite job is the one she’s now doing full time: writing. Kelly loves to craft whodunit mysteries, leading readers through various twists and turns filled with red-herrings, hidden clues, and more peculiar characters than a reality show.

Kelly lives in South Jersey with her handsome husband, handful of energetic kids, two cookie-stealing dogs, and an awfully smart cat.

Shattered but not broken, Shaneé Morgan, shares the raw and uncut story of her journey through childhood trauma, tragedy, resilience, and healing. This shocking yet powerful memoir recalls the author’s childhood growing-up in 5th Ward Houston, Texas also known as “The Nickel,” in the midst of the crack epidemic. From the crack house to the school house, Shaneé recounts the tragic events that could’ve claimed her life, or the lives of her family if not for the grace and mercy of God. Later, realizing there was a greater purpose for her life, she set out to change the trajectory of the family cycle, by breaking generational curses and strongholds, in an effort to provide herself and her family a better life. Having to confront her past through extensive therapy allowed the author to share her tragic story to inspire and motivate other survivors to believe in their ability to succeed through healing, growth, hard work, dedication, and a desire to be their best selves, despite the tragedies and adversity they may have faced.

Deep cutting spiritual poems addressing the deepest human feelings.

Review
You may think to yourself, what could I possibly have in common with the author? But I think I was so pleasantly surprised by the depth of the authors words. A great collection that inspires and makes the reader feel. It's well laid out. I had my favorites, some didn't affect me as much, but I think it was a great collection that shone light on the authors life and inner thoughts. It can appeal to many.

Memoir Feature: 81 and Still Learning by Kathryn Fallon Cameron #blogtour #bookreview #memoir #nonfiction #rabtbooktours @KathrynFCameron @RABTBookTours

With love to 10-year-old Kathryn

Memoir

Publication Date: February 23, 2023

Publisher: Mindstir Media

photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

I am eighty-one now and still learning! As I look back over the years, I wonder what ten-year-old Kathryn (me) would think if she could see our life in advance. Kathryn, I think you would have been pleased and I am going to enjoy my conversation with you every step of the way. I want to share my learnings, musings, and stories with you. Kathryn, let me bring you up to date. It is hard to believe seventy-one years have gone by since I was your age.

Kathryn, I don’t mean to imply that life is perfect now or that I no longer have upsets. Being able to ask myself, “Who do I want to be in this situation?” and having some learnings to turn to have been powerful for me.  And so at 81 years of age it is important to me to share those learnings hoping they will be found helpful to those between your(my) age at 10 and my age today.

Review

How many times in our lives do we think to ourselves. Wow, I wish I would have known that when I was younger? I think that is a lot of the theme of this book. Kathryn Fallon Cameron has lived a full life and as with any life, has had her ups and downs. This is her memoir and I love the way she appeals to her younger self.

I thank Kathryn for sharing her life and wisdom. This was a beautiful read.

About the Author

Kathryn Cameron spent over thirty years as a teacher and educational professional. She accepted a challenge from her son to share her wisdom in 81 and Still Learning. Her motivation for the project came from a deep desire for her grandchildren, especially, to know her, her values, and her story in this unique way. Kathryn enjoys duplicate bridge with her friends and online. She lives in Virginia with her husband, Jim, and their rescue cat, Simon.

The Liberation of Mac MacCarrick

M/M Erotic Romance, Erotic Romantic Comedy

Karl “Mac” MacCarrick is an all-American boy. He’s a loyal friend, a loving son, and a dedicated student. On the surface, Mac has it all—a starting position on his Catholic college’s football team, the heart of his coach’s daughter. But Mac’s heart has never belonged to Kyauta, or any other girl, quite like he thinks it should.

After the Miracles training staff introduces alternative therapies to the team, Mac has wild dreams about his therapist, Kyauta's handsome brother Jalil. Mac feels torn. Although he doesn't want to hurt Kyauta, he doesn't think it would be right to lead her on if he can't provide her with the love she deserves.

The time has come for Mac to decide. He intends to liberate himself from his dilemma on the Fourth of July. Will he follow the path he feels is right for him, or will he adhere to the expectations of his church and society?

Excerpt

Jalil glanced at me, then looked down at his plate. I’m sure it was a trick of the light, but it looked like he was blushing.

“What esteemed guest?” Coach chuckled. “This is just Mac. I guess we’ll have to lock you in your room if we ever have an actual esteemed guest!”

Jalil flashed me a shy smile, and my mind was filled with thoughts of his strong, slim hands massaging my body. I ordered the thoughts to cease, reminding myself that tonight was the night when I stepped up my game with Kyauta. When it was time for me to go home, I took her aside with the intent of giving her a passionate kiss. However, it felt like I was kissing my mother, so I gave her a warm hug and told her I had a wonderful time.

At this morning’s session, I could hardly concentrate on yoga because I couldn’t stop thinking about what was coming after practice. Lidia whacked me on the butt with a towel and admonished me to get my head in the game. She always peppers our yoga sessions with football analogies. She’s a stickler for proper technique, but she’s also a lot of fun. Still, much though I like Lidia, I couldn’t wait to be alone with her nephew and his magic hands.

Lil likes to end her stories on a Happy for Now note with a promise of more good things to come. Although her writing sometimes addresses difficult subjects such as alcoholism or past abuse, she brings a note of love and support to scenes involving these issues.

Lil lives in a remote prairie town in Northeastern Colorado with her adult son and three cats. When she isn’t cooking up spicy stories, she enjoys baking and crafts.
