Thriller Feature: The Salvation of Henry Maxwell by Lee Lindauer #blogtour #bookreview #gothic #thriller #giveaway #rabtbooktours @leelindauer @RABTBookTours

Gothic Thriller

Date Published: September 18, 2024

Publisher: Wild Rose Press Inc.

Henry Maxwell, once a celebrated figure in Gothic horror cinema, finds himself trapped in a life of grief, resulting in severe depression and hallucinations after the tragic death of his wife, Lillian. Maxwell’s battle with reality sets the stage for his emotional and psychological exploration. The novel captures the essence of a man haunted by his past, struggling to find solace.

Jessica Barrow, the young attorney appointed as Maxwell’s conservator, and David Grovene, a film studies professor with a penchant for sixties B-movies, form the central supporting cast. Their involvement in Maxwell's life brings a fresh perspective to his plight, blending elements of clinical psychology and film history into the story.

The setting itself acts like a character, reflecting Maxwell’s internal turmoil and the Gothic essence of his past. A mysterious serial killer adds a layer of creepiness mirroring scenes from Maxwell’s films interweaving the past and present, making for a compelling and suspenseful read.

The Salvation of Henry Maxwell is a unique blend of Gothic horror, psychological thriller, and detective story. The Salvation of Henry Maxwell is imbued with a sense of tragic grandeur and serves as an underlying commentary on the ephemeral nature of fame and the enduring impact of grief.

Review

This story kept me guessing right to the very end. This gothic thriller asks readers to indulge in some interesting questions and keeps their mind completely engrossed the entire way through.

The complex nature of the characters adds a lot of depth to this rich and fabulous novel.

Lindauer weaves a clever story, drawing the reader in with evocative scenes, subtle nuances, and lingering shadows of truths.

Horror / Gothic Feature: The Gift #promo #gothic #horror #giveaway #adventure #rabtbooktours @RABTBooktours @blackcrow_pr

Book 1: Eleanor

Adventure/Gothic Horror/Historical Fiction

Date Published: 09 December 2021

Publisher: whitefox

A lush historical adventure that's equal parts Gothic horror as it is tale of lost love, The Gift: Eleanor is the first in an exhilarating new trilogy that takes you from Titanic to the trenches of WWI, and Honduran shipwrecks to ancient crypts in the heart of London.

The North Atlantic, 14 April 1912. Amid the chaos of the sinking Titanic, a young Eleanor Annenberg meets the eyes of a stranger and is immediately captivated. As the ship buckles around them, she follows him down into the hold and finds him leaning over an open sarcophagus, surrounded by mutilated bodies. She catches but a glimpse of what lies within before she’s sucked into a maelstrom of freezing brine and half-devoured corpses.

Elle is pulled out of the water, but the stranger – and the secrets she stumbled upon – are lost. Unintentionally, however, he leaves her a gift; one so compelling that Elle embarks on a journey that pulls her into a world of ancient evils, vicious hunters and human prey to find the man who saved her that fateful night. From trench warfare at Cape Helles in 1915 to a shipwreck in the tropical shallows off the Honduran coast, from a lost mine beneath the towering Externsteine in a Germany on the verge of war to the gothic crypts of Highgate Cemetery in London, Elle gets closer to a truth she has sought for most of her life. But at what cost? Gifts, after all, are seldom free.

An immersive gothic story spanning decades, The Gift is a compelling read that weaves the supernatural of Dracula with the adventure of Indiana Jones.

Gothic Romance Feature: The Secrets of Stonebridge Castle #promo #regency #gothic #romance #rabtbooktours

Gothic Regency Romance

Published: September 2021

Publisher: Kone Enterprises

A gothic tale of ghosts, murder, and lost love...

When bullies threaten Aurelia Lacey and her five-year-old daughter Nell, they are rescued by an old friend, Jason Durand, younger brother of an earl. Jason, once a daring spy, has fallen into depression and drunkenness since the war, but he rallies long enough to offer the outcasts the shelter of his brother's country seat, Stonebridge Castle. But the ancient castle is not the quiet refuge they expected. Aurelia and Jason—both lost souls from the war against Napoleon—must deal with a bevy of hedonistic London house guests, seven hundred years of ghosts, multiple murders, and a chance—a very slim chance—that love will triumph over all.

Author's Note: Although ghosts are prominent in SECRETS, they appear as characters, not creatures of horror. And there is more emphasis on romance than in my previous Gothics.

About The Author

THE SECRETS OF STONEBRIDGE CASTLE is Book # 50 for award-winning novelist Blair Bancroft. Although best known for books set in the Regency period (Gothic, Historical, & Traditional), she also writes Mystery, Suspense, and SciFi/Fantasy, with a Medieval Young Adult and a Steampunk thrown in for good measure. Her awards include a RITA nomination and winning the Gold Heart (Romance Writers of America), "Best Regency" from Romantic Times Magazine, "Best Romance" and "Best Young Adult" from the Florida Writers Association. She is also the author of MAKING MAGIC WITH WORDS, a 200,000-word book of advice on Writing and Editing.

Blair considers being able to create people, even whole worlds, from the imagination a never-ending joy. She is an "out of the mist" author. One of her favorite sayings: "I can hardly wait to sit down to my computer each morning and find out what my characters are going to do today."

In the summer of 1844, Tom Lyman flees to Bonaventure, a transcendentalist farming cooperative tucked away in eastern Connecticut, to hide from his past. There Lyman must adjust to a new life among idealists, under the fatherly eye of the group’s founder, David Grosvenor. When he isn’t ducking work or the questions of the eccentric residents, Lyman occupies himself by courting Grosvenor’s daughter Minerva.

But Bonaventure isn’t as utopian as it seems. One by one, Lyman’s secrets begin to catch up with him, and Bonaventure has a few secrets of its own. Why did the farm have an ominous reputation long before Grosvenor bought it? What caused the previous tenants to vanish? And who is playing the violin in the basement? Time is running out, and Lyman must discover the truth before he’s driven mad by the whispering through the walls.

A Season of Whispers is Jackson Kuhl's debut novel of Gothic mystery, transcendentalist utopianism, and antediluvian hunger.

Review
Things that go bump in the night and give you just the right amount of spook. The descriptions and imagery were perfect for picturing everything that happens.
That is what this were for me. It's eerie, dark, and mysterious. Has a great storyline that keeps the reader looking around corners and trying to figure out what comes next.
I loved the overall flow and how everything unfolded, I thought that part was perfectly done.

Gothic Fiction Feature: Shadow's Way

Gothic Fiction
Date Published: July 2018
Publisher: Positive Imaging

 photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

Prepare to be spellbound. Barbara Frances' long-awaited third novel, “Shadow's Way,” takes you to the coastal, deep South, where the past and the present mingle in a gothic tale of insanity, murder, and sexual intrigue. You'll meet the beautiful Elaine Chauvier, former actress and proprietor of Shadow's Way, her family's antebellum home; the esteemed Archbishop Andre Figurant and his fallen identical twin, Bastien; newly arrived Ophelia and Rudy, here to explore their Chauvier roots and their ties to Shadow's Way; and the mysterious Madame Claudine. Under a veneer of piety and graciousness, i.e., the questions: What is good? What is evil? What is reality?

About the Author

photo Shadows Way Author Barbara Frances_zpsqikhazop.jpg

Barbara Frances has plenty of stories and a life spent acquiring them. Growing up Catholic on a small Texas farm, her childhood ambition was to become a nun. In ninth grade she entered a boarding school in Our Lady of the Lake Convent as an aspirant, the first of several steps before taking vows. On graduation, however, she passed up the nun’s habit for a college degree in English and Theatre Arts. Her professors were aghast when she declined a PhD program in order to become a stewardess, but Barbara never looked back. “In the Sixties, a stewardess was a glamorous occupation.” Her career highlights include dating a very gentlemanly Chuck Berry and “opening the bar” for a planeload of underage privates on their way to Vietnam. Marriage, children, school teaching and divorce distracted her from storytelling, but one summer she and a friend coauthored a screenplay. “I never had such fun! I come from a family of storytellers. Relatives would come over and after dinner everyone would tell tales. Sometimes they were even true.” The next summer Barbara wrote a screenplay solo. Contest recognition, an agent and three optioned scripts followed but, weary of fickle producers and endless rewrites, she turned to novels. Shadow’s Way is her third book. Her first, Lottie’s Adventure, is aimed at young readers. Her second, Like I Used To Dance, is a family saga set in 1950’s rural Texas. Barbara’s fans can be thankful she passed up convent life for one of stories and storytelling. She and her husband Bill live in Austin, Texas.

Book Tour: The Impaler's Wife by @autumnbardot #review #giveaway #blogtour #historical #romance #gothic @RABTBookTours

Part of a Fearless Women in History series
Historical fiction, Historical Romance, Gothic Romance
Published Date: April 3, 2019

The year is 1464 and young King Matthias controls Hungary, his family, and the fate of the world’s most notorious political prisoner, Prince Vlad Dracula.

Ilona Szilágy, the king’s cousin, is young and ambitious. Dracula is determined to marry into the Hunyadi family. It is love at first sight…but the king has other plans. The Impaler Prince, however, never takes no for an answer.

This begins Ilona’s journey into the treacherous world of court intrigues, family betrayals, and her husband’s dark desires. Eager to become Vlad’s trusted confidant, Ilona soon discovers that marriage to man tortured by his past comes with a price.

Woven throughout is a peek into the life and times of one of the world’s most enigmatic and maligned rulers…the man before the legend.

With Bardot’s decadent period detail and a cast of gritty evocative characters, The Impaler’s Wife offers a fierce yet sensuous glimpse into the violent 15th century.

Review

Often times the female character really makes or breaks the story for me in these kinds of books. Ilona really made this one for me. She is fierce and she is strong as a female, especially in historical times. I always like to read about characters who break the mold and give me a reason to root for them.

Vlad is a typical male lead in books like this, but I loved that he was redeemable. He does things to make you really question if you like him, but understandably so for the time period and premise of the story.

It's dark at times and it's beautiful at times. There are many ups and downs for these characters both personally and together.

A great attention to detail from the author in which she uses wonderful imagery to transport you to the time and her mind for the story.

Review

Be prepared to become addicted to this story from the very beginning. KaSonndra Leigh has created characters who are engaging and creepy. The story itself has so many aspects you would not expect. Yes, its a Gothic Story, but there is Romance, History, and so much more woven throughout.

The twists and surprises are plenty and will keep you flipping pages til the very end.

About the Author

Author of the Bestelling Lost Immortals Saga, Pathseekers and Musical Interlude Series, KaSonndra Leigh is also a mother, blogazine owner, reader, gardener, home renovator, and a slayer of undead Egyptian mummies in Tomb Raider. She believes in karma, coffee, and seriously wish that the producers of Xena would bring her favorite show ever back.

Strange things about KaSonndra: Everything. She’s weird, odd, unusual, and generally tends to make people think she swooped down from another planet. Maybe she did. Who knows? She’s also a member of the #zombiesurvivalcrew on twitter. So if you need protection from the upcoming apocalypse, don’t hesitate to call on KayLeigh and crew!

KaSonndra was born in the race-car city of Charlotte, NC, and now live in the City of Alchemy and Medicine, NC, when she’s not hanging out in Bardonia (Lost Immortals Saga setting). Most of her characters are based on people that she has met throughout her travels and adventures. People tend to stop and start conversations with KaSonndra as if she has known them her entire life. Does this freak her out? Not really. Her mom says that one day she’ll get kidnapped by one of these folks. KaSonndra’s response? She told her mom that if it weren’t for these lovely people, then she wouldn’t be able to create such fabulously romantic stories.

A few other tidbits about KaSonndra… She has watched the movie Under the Tuscan Sun almost 200 times. This is her explanation regarding her obsession. She figures that if she keeps watching the film enough times, then suddenly the house that Diane Lane lives in will magically appear in her backyard. Yes! KaSonndra has a huge imagination!
