Blog Tour: Never Trust a Skinny Cupcake Baker by @denaehaggerty #review #mystery

Cozy Mystery
Date Published: April 11, 2016

A cozy mystery with a heap of laughs, a generous portion of romance, and just a smidgeon of suspense.

Callie’s life is rather awesome. She owns a successful bakery and teaches German literature at the local university. There’s just one tiny problem. She has no self-confidence when it comes to her body. And then there’s the little matter of her being accused of murdering her pole dancing instructor. There’s no way Callie’s going to risk losing her teaching position and thus she embarks, with her best baker bud Anna, on a journey to discover the real killer. Between stripper auditions and a detective who insists Callie is the woman of his dreams, it’s a roller coaster adventure. Cupcakes not included.

Review

Crazy Cover! But I kinda like it!

I so love the way that DE Haggerty mixes Humor and Comedy with Suspense and Mystery.

I liked the smooth and steady flow of the way that the romance unfolded in this novel.

And did this novel make anyone elses sweet tooth scream for something yummy???

I grew up reading everything I could get my hands on from my mom's Harlequin romances to Nancy Drew to Little Women. When I wasn't flipping pages in a library book, I was penning horrendous poems, writing songs no one should ever sing, or drafting stories which have thankfully been destroyed. College and a stint in the U.S. Army came along, robbing me of free time to write and read, although I did manage every once in a while to sneak a book into my rucksack between rolled up socks, MRIs, t-shirts, and cold weather gear. A few years into my legal career, I was exhausted, fed up, and just plain done. I quit my job and sat down to write a manuscript, which I promptly hid in the attic after returning to the law. Another job change, this time from lawyer to B&B owner and I was again fed up and ready to scream I quit, which is incredibly difficult when you own the business. Thus, I shut the B&B during the week and in the off-season and started writing. Several books later I find myself in Istanbul writing full-time.

Review

I liked that this could be read as a standalone and that I didn't feel lost.

I liked the theme that even someone who sets a plan and tries to stick with it can get blindsided by, well, life.

This was definitely action packed and kept me wondering what would happen next!

When starting this novel, be prepared to not be able to put it down. The way the story flows will have you flipping pages furiously to see whats going to happen next. I loved the pacing, it was very even throughout.

The characters maybe needed just a bit more, but other than that, I thought this was a fantastic introduction to a new Young Adult Sci-Fi/Dystopian world and I can not wait to see where it goes next.

Hayley Barrett began writing in the aftermath of the devastating Christchurch earthquakes of 2010 and 2011 as a way of escaping from the ongoing terror of the natural disaster. She spends a little time each day writing and can often be found at her local library wearing headphones and with a lap top attached to her hands.
Hayley lives in Rolleston, ten minutes south of Christchurch, New Zealand, with her husband and three children. When she isn’t driving her kids to their sports practices, games and other after school activities, she enjoys playing squash, relaxing in the sun and reading. Most days she wishes there were more hours available to spend writing.

Review

This novel is the epitome of out of the box. It takes a Genre that is inundated with the same ol and really does a 180! I loved how things we love about Paranormal Romance are still apparent, but with changes and things to make this her own. Vampires, but Gangster Vampires. It was a great mash up of Suspense and Mystery along with Paranormal and Romance. I enjoyed the balancing act that Judy Serrano had to play when creating this novel. She has written a wonderfully unique novel.

Judy Serrano holds a Master of Arts in English from Texas A&M University, Commerce. She is the owner of Make Cents Editing Service, and was an adjunct professor at a local college. Currently she teaches high school English and is a freelance writer for certain on-line publications. Judy also writes romantic suspense and paranormal romance novels. She is the author of The Easter’s Lilly SeriesThe Linked Seriesand Ivy Vines, Visions. Although originally form New York, Judy resides in Texas with her husband, four boys, four dogs and now two cats. Review

Holy great characterization Batman! I seriously loved the way that Ken Brosky brought his characters to life. They were so real and so fun to read about. Real life problems thrown in with some Sci-Fi and "out there". I think all in all it was a great balance.

I thoroughly enjoyed the way that Ken managed to balance the Suspense, Sci-Fi, and General Fiction to make this a novel that manages to span genres.

You will want to read more as soon as you finish this novel!

About the Author

The Proving is Ken Brosky’s newest YA sci-fi adventure. His first series, The Grimm Chronicles, ran from 2012-2014 and is available on Kindle. Ken received his MFA in writing from the University of Nebraska-Omaha.

Review
I am blown away by Tich Brewster's ability to bring to life such relatable leads. Connection to a story really starts with the main characters and I actually thought that both main and supporting characters in this story were very easy to understand and get behind.

The story unfolds effortlessly and I was enamored by it. A wonderfully written Young Adult Paranormal Novel. BRAVO.

Tich is an Oklahoma resident and the mother of five. Her passion for reading started at an early age when her Aunt Vicky gave her the novel Heidi for Christmas. She didn't start writing until middle school, after being inspired by her best friend's short stories. "Genny's stories weren't just great but they inspired me to put my pen and paper to good use." Tich never thought of publishing her works until working with Teresa on the Royal Blood series.

Blog Tour: Back in My Life by @Mariecrauthor #review

Romance / Erotica
Date Published: February 27, 2016

Back in my Life is a story set in the beautiful cities of New York and Chicago. This story is not the typical and simple "boy meets girl, boy and girl get marry story." This story is a powerful story that shows how real and unselfish love truly looks like. The love between Ruby and Clyde is an amazing and genuine love that survived everything that came in between them—even the most painful experiences that destiny had planned for them.

During a college internship at a prestigious New York magazine, Ruby Sparks (a journalist graduate student from Chicago) meets Clyde Holt, (a fellow intern and a creative photography student from a London based college) whom from day one became Ruby's obsession and the new reason for her existence. After developing strong feelings for her emotionally unavailable friend, Ruby finds herself trapped in a whirlpool of emotions while trying to earn her friend's love. What Ruby doesn't know is that while she is looking for true love, Clyde's presence in her life came with a different purpose.

Review
First off, I really like this cover. I believe it captures the intensity of the novel and the barrage of emotions it takes you through. The looks in the characters eyes really shoot through the cover.

Secondly, I loved the writing ability and emotion that Marie C.R. was able to evoke in me. From the ups and downs that both Ruby and Clyde had to go through to the heartache and path to each decisions they made, I really felt it come through the pages.

I have been writing for pleasure for the past couple of years, but this is the first time I do a book tour so I am very excited for it. Writing is my passion, and I enjoy using real-life stories as the basis for my novels, but giving them a little twist to make them more melodramatic and breath-taking. I am also the author of Pamela's Confessions and Confesiones del Alma. I currently live in Florida with my husband and three children.
