This book is a detailed account of the research on gut health and the benefits of healthy eating. The book describes 21 smoothies along with a new superfood Flavonoid additive that will help people with health benefits. Holistic living in total.

Review
I was pleasantly surprised to find there are so many take-aways from this read. It's packed full of important health information while also having recipes. It's a great balance between the two and a great place to start for those looking to try out making their own smoothies full of health benefits.

About the Author

At 14 years old, to be a health advocate, researcher, entrepreneur, innovator and a publicist is a huge feat and Diya encompasses all of these with flair. She is not just a born natural but also very thoughtful, inquisitive and enterprising. Diya's mission is to change this world from inside out and motivate self help and self healing using unique healthy recipes, introducing her own brand of super food of flavonoids (Oxi-Blast) and also by introducing meditation and breathing techniques to live a better life.

Her discord server SPEAK (Support, Positivity, Equality, Acceptance/Assistance and Kindness) that she started with only 2 people a few weeks back now has over 30+ subscribers who wants to talk to her about their problems and frustrations, and Diya being a good listener, listens to their problems and asks them to practice breathing and meditation with her or provide some encouraging words that the friend was desperate to hear.

She is also the youngest proponent of smoothies and has developed 64 unique combinations of fresh fruits and vegetables, Oxi-Blast, superfoods, condiments and a liquid base. She shares 21 of those in this book and she also provides a grocery list of ingredients in her website to make efficient shopping possible. Her book is also full of treasured facts for each of the ingredients with their nutritional values to you to make a conscious decision about the food that you are eating.

Her passion to learn from her life lessons and motivate the youth to be a better version of themselves, take care of their stress, depression and anxiety by simply learning to express their feelings and also eat healthy to keep chronic illness away. She comes from a family history of diabetes, blood pressure, chronic allergies and heart problems, so she is trying her best to stay healthy and also reach the younger generation to maintain a balance in their lives from very early in life to ward of predisposed conditions.

Her research on microbiome (E.coli) and how it is affected by different chronic medications that we take on a daily basis like metformin, losartan, ibuprofen , tylenol and even vape , shows the deleterious side effects it can have on gut bacteria. Hence, with the help of her research, while working at an ASU lab, she is trying to quantify the amount of flavonoids in Oxi-Blast to give a healthier option to oneself and start on a journey of self healing.

"Dear Diary, On September 3, 1982, two things happened that I'll never forget: I acquired an older sister, and I fell in real love. But tell me, what does an eight-year-old know about love?"

For nearly a decade, Hosea Felix and Gomer Williams were inseparable. She loved him from the moment she laid eyes on him. Their friendship was iron-clad until temptation rocked Gomer to her core. Somewhere along the way, she fell for another guy and traded young love for instant pleasure. Not only is Jeri Cole fine—he is a bonafide gangsta, unattainable, and off-limits. Jeri was all Gomer could think about, and the only thing she thought she wanted. Despite her big sister already laying claim to him, not much could stop Gomer from clawing at the possibility of love and diva status. Getting with Jeri felt right...but at what cost?

Gomer never backed down. She is the original bad girl—ratchet, bougie, and insatiable. Feel like you wanna dislike her? Well, get in line.

They Call me Gomer… JC Miller's sophomore spin-off novel enthralls readers with a deeply woven, emotionally heart-tugging take on the Book of Hosea. By examining rape culture, drug addiction, family secrets, and the vulnerabilities of young Black girls in pursuit of fortune and fame, this contemporary tale gives those in search of a good dra-mance all the feelings!

She will chase after her lovers but not catch them; she will look for them but not find them. Then she will say, "I will go back to my husband as at first, for then I was better off than now.  Hosea 2:7

Excerpt

Dear Diary:

June 4, 1992

There is no one like Hosea. Where I fall short, he fills in my spaces. Besides Daddy, he’s my first love and best friend. He genuinely wants to be with my crazy behind self, and I promise you―there was no bullying, bribery, or blackmail involved on my part. Hosea came along willingly and by his own contentment. I can’t keep a friend to save my life, but Hosea Felix has stuck like glue. He doesn’t care that I’m ratchet, common, and unworthy; being Christ-like, he covers me. We’ve loved each other from day one...but sometimes I wonder, what’s love got to do with it...you know? I put Hosea through hell, and as a dog returns to its own puke, he keeps coming back. A tragic romance. I don’t deserve him...and I often wonder, how did I make a friend like Zee? Lucky, I guess.

It's 1973. Our nation is torn apart by the Vietnam War, and the massacre of unarmed students at Kent State. The Vice President has resigned for bribery and tax evasion. The President is being investigated for engaging in criminal activity.

At twenty-three, David Reed has become embittered by political strife and corruption. Disenchanted with his future, he wants out. Along with new friends, Rusty and Susie, David leaves everything he knows to cross the United States with little more than his bicycle and a camera.

The trio gets more than they bargain for, with menacing animals, extreme weather, and astonishing encounters.

Uphill and Into the Wind recounts an odyssey that spans 5420 miles on bicycles. It chronicles the sudden and surprising glories of nature, the raw beauty of the land, and the majesty of the mountains. But that is just the start. Through it all, the three are changed forever, in ways they did not expect, by their long journey into the unknown.

Review
I experienced every emotion while reading this book. Sympathy, empathy, surprise, disbelief, and support are a few of feelings while following this adventure.
This book had me cringing at some of the experiences the author had, empathize with some of his feelings, rooting for him and companions, and celebrate with him at the finish line.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a serious book with a true story.

 About the Author

David Reed has spent a lifetime studying the natural world, from his youth in the woods, his University training, his apprenticeship as a stonemason, and his travels on a bicycle, to his career as an award-winning landscape architect.

A career highlight includes re-designing four major gardens in San Diego’s jewel, Balboa Park.

A visual storyteller, David has guest lectured at the San Diego Museum of Art, Rutgers University, Kansas State University, The New School of Architecture, and other venues. His professional work has been published in Sunset Magazine, Garden Design Magazine, and Building Stone Magazine.

Uphill and Into the Wind is David’s debut memoir. But his work has been published in A Year in Ink, the San Diego Writers, Ink Anthology and awarded at the Southern California Writers Conference.

David believes that life is “out there,” in the forest, and on the land, not inside the box.

He currently resides in San Diego with his wife and family.

One Family's Alzheimer's/Dementia Journey and the Lessons Learned Along the Way

Non Fiction

Date Published: July 10, 2020

photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

“I Love You Always” introduces you to Lottie Mae Polk Berry, am self-proclaimed badass who battles Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia for years, hoping to make it to age 90. Her daughter, LaBena, gives a detailed account of Lottie’s life from her teenage years, through diagnosis and beyond.

“I Love You Always” will have you on an emotional roller-coaster as Lottie’s wit and antics send you into hysterical laughter one moment and leave you silently sobbing the next. Calm, turbulence, and laughter are recurring themes throughout.

Her children struggle to see that she receives the best medical care while hoping, in spite of her condition, that she makes it to her 90th birthday. LaBena shares valuable caregiver tips she’s learned, in the form of “lessons” throughout the book as well as messages of faith in the form of beloved biblical passages. Believers and non-believers alike can benefit from reading this story.

Review
I think its very telling that a book can both break your heart and give you hope at the same time. It's an honest look at a real person's experience and while it is sad, it is also inspiring and gives us hope.

About the Author

LaBena Fleming was born in Detroit, Michigan, raised in Ravenna, Ohio, and presently resides in Richmond Heights, Ohio with her husband. LaBena received her bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Development from Notre Dame College of Ohio. She went on to earn master’s degrees in Education and Educational Administration from Ursuline College in Pepper Pike, Ohio. A former insurance industry professional, school teacher/administrator, and community education and outreach coordinator for an organ and tissue procurement organization, LaBena retired from her position as Provider Relations Manager/Community Outreach and Education Coordinator with Hospice of the Western Reserve in 2017. Retiring afforded LaBena the opportunity to serve as one of the caregivers for her mother, who had Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia.

LaBena currently enjoys spending time with her husband, daughters, and granddaughter, public speaking, gardening, cooking, traveling, reading, and of course writing. Although she has always “dabbled” in writing; having written multiple poems and freelancing for a few greeting card companies, I Love You Always is her first book.

Healing My Inner child to Restore Self-Love

Self Help- Body mind Spirit- Psychology

Date Published: 9/29/20

Do you have a yearning to be the best version of yourself, but struggle to connect with your inner child? If you answered yes, perhaps I can help. I am Reyhan Toplu, and once upon a time, I was just like you. My journey will help inspire you to reconnect with yourself.

We’ve all heard the cliché, “don’t lose sight of the child within”, but how do we hold onto them in a world of negativity? How do we preserve our love and innocence in a world seemingly intent on grinding us down? The time is right for us to rediscover our inner peace and self-love.

Too many of us think of our inner child as someone to fight against, rather than embrace. The victim of embarrassment, trauma, and for some of us, suffering, we’re all too willing to fight against the worst of what our inner child could be, rather than realizing the potential for growth, love, and happiness. This book is all about a journey to reconnect with my inner child, a book of ideas to help you on your own journey to finding peace and happiness. Our journeys may not be the same, but I hope my story can help guide you to finding your own contentment.

Journey with me, Reyhan Toplu, as we explore the hidden truths of your inner child on a quest for health and happiness that comes from within.

Rei was nosey. She’d been told it would always get her in trouble, but it never did. Until she met Megan, who promised her the job of a lifetime. Sure, the high school newspaper wasn’t the ideal job for most, but for Rei, it was a dream. She’d never considered putting her investigative nature to work, but what Megan was asking her to do was way beyond the requirements of a school newspaper. It was part of an underground news-for favor-service. Her partners, Asher and Eli, annoyed her by never trusting her to do a job alone. Maybe, this one time she should have listened, because being trapped with no one to bail her out may surely be the death of Rei. Spilling the secrets about her family she’d been withholding, will place every one of them in grave and serious danger.

Excerpt

Maribelle’s mom was speeding off in her sports car when Rei arrived.

Trey raised an eyebrow. “She’s not staying?”

I guess not.” Rei gathered her things, “If I call you late tonight to come over, maybe, hang out with us, could you?”

Trey’s lip lifted to the side. “I’ll try to make it happen.”

Rei smiled and leaned over and kissed him. “Thanks for the ride.”

Trey’s thumb tapped his lower lip. “Does that mean you aren’t mad at me anymore?”

It means I am still a bit irritated at you trying to tell me what to do, but that you are too irresistible for me not to kiss you.”

He chuckled. “I do love you, Rei.”

I know.” She opened the door and scooted out of the car before he could run around and open it for her. Rei turned and waved at him.

Trey winked and sped off.

Rei pivoted around and dropped her jaw at the size of Maribelle’s house. It was huge, with a u-shaped driveway. There was a small porch, arched overhang over the door. She was likely the last one there tonight since she had to work and talk to Trey. She climbed the few steps and rang the doorbell.

Ivy opened the door holding a champagne glass with a fuzzed pink drink in it. She squealed. “Rei’s here!”

Excerpt

For some people, being an author is a calling. For some, writing and storytelling is where their creativity lies. For others, they feel compelled to tell their story and impact people. Still for others, being an author is a hobby. Whether you write as a hobby, have a calling or hope to make writing your full-time work, all of those take dedication, know-how and help.

For those who like the idea of being able to self-publish as many books as they have in their hearts and minds, it’s very possible. You can do it with a little support and know-how. Like learning to ride a bike when you were six or to drive when you were 15, this author thing can be mastered and won’t be perplexing anymore!

As authors, we have a great opportunity. Our voice and message in written form can be far-reaching, going even beyond our lifetimes. We have a weighty responsibility. Our words will influence others, even those we may never meet. We have a unique creative outlet and expression. Authorship affords us a special way to release the gifts, messages, creativity and wisdom God has placed inside each of us. Being an author is an amazing thing.

After the many things I’ve done in my lifetime, I believe #AuthorLife is the best life. What will author life look like for you? I hope it is filled with joy and a confident satisfaction, knowing you’ve written many books your readers love and have made a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
